Forming processes for sheet metal

Roll forming, sometimes spelled rollforming, is a metal forming process in which sheet metal is progressively shaped through a series of bending operations. The process is performed on a roll forming line in which the sheet metal stock is fed through a series of roll stations.

May 07, 2017 · Mainly sheet metal process can be divided into three types. The first one is sheet metal cutting, second one is sheet metal bending or forming and the last one is known as deep drawing. In this article we mainly focus on sheet metal cutting operations and other two we will discuss into upcoming articles. Also called calendering, refers to the process of forming a metal ingot through a pair of rollers. If the temperature of the metal exceeds its recrystallization temperature, the process is called hot rolling, otherwise is called cold rolling. The calender is the most commonly used method for metal processing. Metal on the inside of the bend is compressed. It is very common forming process for changing sheet and plate into channel, drums, tanks, etc. 3. Stretch forming: Stretch forming is used in place of simple bending to produce contoured or large radius of curvature parts by stretching sheet metal sheet, strips, or profile over shaped block form.
