This famous Siciliano in G minor was originally composed for flute and harpsichord. It is the second movement of Johann Sebastian Bach's Sonata No. 2 in E flat Major for Flute and Harpsichord, BWV 1031. This three-movement flute sonata was composed between the years 1730 and 1734. This score is a transcription for violin and piano or harpsichord.

It is often assumed that Bach's extant violin concertos were written in his Köthen period (1717–1723): it can however not be proven from documentary evidence that any of them existed prior to around 1730.
